Avoid Being Bothered by Telemarketers on Your Cell Phone.

I was really annoyed the other day when my cell phone rang while I was enjoying my favorite supper, meatballs and spaghetti. When I finally got to my cell phone, which was placed in my briefcase in the other room, I learned that it was just some telemarketer trying to sell me some off brand dog food, when in fact I do not even own a dog! I have added my cell phone in the past to the "Do Not Call List", so they had no business calling me in the first place, and besides this, it's illegal for telemarketers to call someone on their cell phone.

So lets explore the options and steps to be taken in order for all of us be able to sit back and relax while at home, and avoid the need to just say..."Thanks, but I am not interested" over and over.

Putting your phone number on the do not call List is the first step that should be done. However, don't think that this will just stop them from calling you. Even when you add your number to the Do Not Call List, they sometimes continue to call you. This is frustrating when they call you on your home or office phone, but it's even more annoying when they call you on you cell phone, because they are using up your minutes. Even though there are some telemarketers who are exempt from the Do Not Call list rules, there are no telemarketers who are exempt from the law that prohibits them from calling your cell phone.

When you get a telemarketing phone call, very politely tell the telemarketer that you do not wish to receive such offers in the future and that he/she should remove your phone number from their list. For legal purposes, you will need to tell this phrase 'Put my number on your don't-call list,' to the telemarketer. Per FCC requirements, once you've said this sentence, the telemarketer is prohibited from calling you again for 10 years. (Make sure you say that exact sentence. Just saying 'Take me off your list' or 'Stop calling me' does not legally force the telemarketer to stop calling you.) This will in most cases solve the problem and you won't receive any phone calls from them in the future. You can also write a letter to Telephone Preference Service, Direct Marketing Association at P.O. Box 9014, Farmingdale, NY 11735-9014. Provide your name, address and home telephone number and say that you do not want calls from any telemarketers. Be sure to sign the letter and keep a copy.

If they continue to call, you have the option of filing a complaint with the FCC so that they can investigate that company's telemarketing activities, plus you can file a complaint a the Do Not Call Registry.

To take it a step further, you can also perform a reverse phone search online and see what you can find out about the telemarketing company, such as their name and address, then simply file a complaint with the FTC by calling (888) 382-1222.
